ITINERANT EXHIBITION, “A Shipyard. A Family”

GONDAN Shipbuilders presents its new traveling exhibition, “A Shipyard, a Family,” a visual and historical journey that reviews the shipyard’s 100 years of existence, told through images, documents, and memories. The exhibition aims to bring this history to audiences of all ages, offering an accessible and emotional journey through its origins, evolution, and the bond it has maintained with its surroundings during a century of shipbuilding.

The exhibition “A shipyard, a family” offers a journey through the hundred-year history of Astilleros GONDAN, from its humble family origins in the 19th century to its consolidation as an international benchmark in shipbuilding. Through audiovisual content, documents, and ship models, visitors will discover the technical evolution—from wood to steel and fiber—the challenges overcome, key moments such as the 1978 fire and the crises in the fishing industry, and the transformation of a small rural company into a leading industry that has delivered more than 500 ships to nearly 30 countries. All this without losing sight of its strong roots in the Eo region and its commitment to local development, sustainability, and innovation.

Starting on June 20, it will be on display at the Casa de Cultura in Figueras during library hours. Throughout July, it will be open to the public at the Casino de Castropol theater, before moving to Gijón for the trade fair and then to Tapia de Casariego for the Campomar fair. At the end of the summer, it can be visited at the Ribadeo tourist office during the local festivities. Once it has finished its tour of these towns, the exhibition will continue its journey to different cities.
