GONDAN Receives Ship of the Year Award for the Pole Star

GONDAN has been awarded the Ship/Naval Vessel of the Year prize by the Spanish Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers (AINE) for the Pole Star, built for the Northern Lighthouse Board, the body responsible for lighthouses and navigational aids in Scotland and the Isle of Man.

The award was presented on April 23 during the International Congress on Naval Engineering and the Maritime Industry, highlighting the vessel’s technical complexity, innovation, and construction quality.

The Pole Star is a highly specialized 70-meter-long vessel designed to perform maintenance operations on lighthouses, buoys, and navigational aids in Scottish waters. It features hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, a DP-2 dynamic positioning system, high-capacity batteries, and specialized deck equipment, including cranes for buoy operations, auxiliary boats, and supply operations. Its design combines operational capability, safety, and environmental efficiency, adapting to the demanding conditions in which it operates.

At GONDAN, we would like to thank the Northern Lighthouse Board for the trust they have placed in us for this project, as well as AINE for this recognition of Spanish shipbuilding.
